Unlike most artists, Farita wasn't one of those girls who dreamt of being a star. In a traditional Indian family studies came first. Although the signs were there from a young age, she performed in school choirs from the age of 6 and at 11 was awarded a scholarship to study the clarinet.
An awkward, shy teenager, her hidden desires began to come to the surface and she began to sing, write and dance in the haven of her bedroom as an escape from the harsh realities of teenage life.
As expected from a "good Indian girl" university followed but initially unbeknown to her parents she also began vocal coaching with Lucy D'Olimpio of Harmony School of Voice and Music - it was D'Olimpio who was instrumental in Farita’s decision to pursue a career in music.
Naive and new to the music industry Farita was soon signed to a now defunct, unscrupulous record label. The cruel reality of the business set in. When the contract expired some serious soul searching was required. It seemed a constant uphill battle with little support or encouragement but being true to herself she decided to stay focused on her dream.
While continuing to perform in band and clubs in her hometown of Perth was introduced to UK writers and producers "Cube"- Dean Hopkins and a co-writer he worked with at the time.
Farita recorded several tracks with Cube. "Boyfriend", which went to # 1 on the mp3.com.au charts as well as performing their track "Be What U Wanna Be" in Melbourne, Australia as finalist out of nearly 150 acts in a national competition. The tracks also received airplay.
Wanting to bring her ethnic side to her music, Farita approached Hopkins with the concept and an exclusive Indian/R&B project was born. Their first collaboration, "Don't Tell Me That You're Sorry" reached #2 on the mp3.com.au charts and remained in the R&B top 20 for over a year.
New tracks and an EP including the track "Karma" - a spicy mix of R&B/Pop, with a world sound. The track was a finalist in the Urban category of respected Australian WAM Song of the Year Competition. Karma also went to No.1 in The NextBigHit.com based in New York.
Over 2006/2007 Farita's tracks have enjoyed success in the USA Broadjam.com Charts including the Pop Top 10, Contemporary R&B Top Ten, Production Top 10, Female Vocal Top 10, Australian Top 10 , California Top 10, and more - often with two tracks dominating a single Top Ten chart at any one time. She has also had several #1 hits on the Broadjam charts.
Her tracks continue to break into the top ten of various charts including, her track "Giving It Up" entering at #3 on the American Idol Underground Pop Charts, “It’s A Little Like” going to #1 on the RadioIndy.com R&B Charts while “Get Up Now” and “Giving It Up” shot to positions #2 & #5 respectively on the RadioIndy.com Pop Charts during their first week of entry (August 2007). "Get Up Now", (the track that won Farita Best Female Solo Artist Australia) also went to #1 on the Airspun.com charts.
“Giving It Up” is set to feature on a compilation CD featuring the best new independent talent to be released by GreatIndieMusic.com.
As a personal project, Farita will write and perform the official theme song for a youth congress in Victoria, Australia Dec. 2007. The event will bring youth from all over the world to Australia’s shores.
Working between Australia and the USA, Farita is promoting her current EP – Karma as well as completing her debut album.
This is one artist whose goal is to change the face of music with something...’Farita’.
